Tour de Dresden 2019

We are very happy that we are based in a city with such a strong scene of bicycle lovers, athletes and normal people who simply use their two-wheelers every day. Out of this circle, small cycling events are created that stand for what the time in the saddle is all about: FUN!

Copy and paste

Since July 6th, the great role model has been running with this year’s start in Brussels and it wiggles for 3480 km through the French countryside. 176 riders from 22 international teams are taking part. It may be that the biggest and most important road cycling race in recent years has lost much of its magic due to doping sinners. Nevertheless, millions watch the Tour on screens and thousands on the tracks year after year. It has its own glossary, its own stories, a red devil, music and literature and has developed its own cultural cosmos.
In order to experience a small part of the magic of cycling and to let the local “happieness cosmos” grow, the Dresden branch was founded in 2003.

This is Dresden not Dijon

Just like the great role model, 21 stages will be pulverized on 23 days. Mountain stages and individual time trials can also be found in the racing calendar. The daily departures – meeting point Alaunpark | 5:30 p.m. | weekends 10:00 a.m. – are based on the track profile of the originals, but are somewhat shortened to the distance. Anyone who feels up to the challenge is allowed to take part, roll a technically intact bike onto the line and generally adhere to the small, manageable but important catalogue of rules.
The biggest difference to the real tour is simple and focuses again on the fun mentioned at the beginning: It is a ride that is enjoyed together.
Since last year the Schleudergang-Chapter Dresden is taking care of the tour. The self-proclaimed “most stable cycling group in Europe” is establishing itself more and more from year to year. In addition to the Tuesday After Work Round, an online-group of members that invites you to swap and exchange, and the monthly Gran Fondo, it now organizes and bundles all the information – online and offline – for the upcoming stages.

Sharing is caring

Despite the fact that it is a joint ride without competitive character, there are always winners. With each round in the schleudergang the donation bag goes around and collects hard money for the DKMS to carry their vision – we defeat blood cancer. The non-profit organization has set itself this goal since 1991, sharing information and developing events to raise awareness of the disease and primarily finding potential donors.
For this year’s Tour de Dresden Player from the scene support by doubling up the collected pot. We found the idea enchanting and didn’t have to think twice: We were the sponsor for the third stage and are as proud as the gang is stable!
