Flare Bicycle Festival 2019

There is a new Festival in the beautiful city of Heidelberg. On 22nd and 23rd June a hotspot for bikes with dropped handlebars was created at the Dezernat16.

Even the name points the direction to the core of the fair: On a road bike handlebar “Flare” describes the degree to which the bar ends are exposed. On gravel and adventure bikes, the wider handle provides more comfort and safety. “Flare” also has the English meaning for – “something that shines brightly and attracts attention”.

Shine like a diamond

When we were invited to join this new bike show dedicated to drop bars and off-road riding we were interested straight away. It just felt right to connect our new brand with a new player on the exhibition market. And it is always exciting to find out how our Purple Haze or Clueless turns out in comparison to bikes of the big players.

Comfort zones

Now sitting here and thinking about it I have to say it was a blast! The Dezernat16 is perfectly located in the beautiful city of Heidelberg and the team around the fahrstil Magazine gave the show their unique and detail loving touch. Beside the small area with all the exhibitor booths and the food area we could check out the handmade studio: A small retrospective of handcrafted bikes and frames. Furthermore a photo exhibition about urban mobility at the Café Leitstelle gave some impression on the impact of inner city transportation.

Ride

The festival organized very well attended group rides for Saturday and Sunday that led the people through the beautiful mountains surrounding Heidelberg. After the first ride on Saturday the riders and exhibitors got together again at the party to end the nice day with a cold drink and nice music. Yeah! It is good to see that the current direction of drop bar bikes is fully differentiated. It attracts all kinds of people with different backgrounds and attitudes on cycling: No matter if MTB, Cross or Gravel – the drop bar is no longer confined to classic road bikes. Thanks to all the people involved in the Flare Bicycle Festival and we hope to see us again!

Side note: For the best breakfast in town check out this lovely spot.
